Camelot Theatre is excited to host its first Drag Beauty Pageant, a vibrant and inclusive event celebrating the artistry and talent of the drag community. This event will showcase a diverse range of performances, fashion, and creativity, culminating in the crowning of the Southern Oregon Drag Queen, who will have the honor of leading the Ashland Pride Parade.
Judges Panel: We are thrilled to have a distinguished panel of judges who bring a wealth of experience and a passion for the arts and community:
Representative Pam Marsh - Esteemed local politicians known for their support of the arts and LGBTQ+ community.
Gina Duquenne - Influential advocate for diversity and inclusion, and a Ashland City Council member.
Melina Bitchcock & Elektra Starr - Influential advocates for diversity and inclusion, and a respected figure in the drag community.
Contestant Application Process: To ensure a high-quality and engaging competition, the application process will be conducted online, with the following steps:
Applications: Interested participants will submit their applications through the Camelot Theatre. Headshot and bio included.
Selection Limit: The competition will be limited to 15-20 applicants to maintain a manageable and high-caliber event.
Pre-Screening: A pre-screening process will narrow down the applicants to the top 5 contestants who will compete in the live event. This ensures that the final contestants are the best representatives of drag talent in the community.
Talent Contest:
Lip Sync or Other Talents: Contestants will showcase their performance skills, whether through a dynamic lip-sync performance or another unique talent that highlights their creativity and stage presence.
Hair and Make-Up Competition: Participants will be judged on their hair and make-up artistry, demonstrating their ability to create stunning and innovative looks.
Wardrobe Competition: Contestants will present their best drag attire, with a focus on originality, craftsmanship, and overall visual impact. Competitions will include; Casual Outfits, Swim Suit and Evening Wear.
Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 participants: Bejeweled crown and $250 prize to FIRST PLACE winner, $150 prize to FIRST RUNNER UP winner, and $100 prize to THIRD PLACE winner.
Crowning Ceremony: The highlight of the evening will be the crowning of the Southern Oregon Drag Queen. The winner will be awarded the title and will lead the Ashland Pride Parade, representing the spirit and diversity of the drag community.
At Camelot we believe that diversity and inclusion make us stronger and enrich all of our lives. Diversity means inviting new people of different cultures, color, sexual orientation, etc., to the party...inclusion means asking them to dance. As Maya Angelou wrote: “We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal ....”
