Gwen Overland Named Artistic Director of Camelot Theatre

With an impressive background in theatre, music, education and a passion for creativity, Gwen Overland brings a wealth of experience and fresh vision to our beloved theatre. Gwen joins us with a diverse portfolio of successful productions and a commitment to artistic excellence.

She is a member of Actors Equity Association, was most recently seen at Camelot Theatre as Kate Keller in Arthur Miller’s All My Sons. Before that she performed the role of the mother in Dog Logic at Next Stage at the Craterian Theatre. She also musically directed, co-wrote and played Fern Langenfelder in The Old Time Traveling Radio Show; as well, as directed All in the Timing, played Ruth Steiner in Collected Stories, and Virginia Carpoletti in Three Viewings. Likewise, Gwen has also acted at Camelot Theatre in White Christmas, Spotlight on Mae West, Cabaret, Carnival and The Sisters Rosensweig. Also at Camelot, Gwen has directed Harvey, Something Rotten!, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, Calendar Girls, Sweeney Todd, Sunshine Boys, Master Class, Wait Until Dark, Enchanted April, and Moon Over Buffalo. She has musically directed numerous spotlight productions, including Judy Garland, Glen Campbell, The Mamas and the Papas, Janis Joplin, Tina Turner, and Judy Garland.

She has also directed and acted in various productions for the Oregon Cabaret Theatre; as well, as the SOU theatre department. Her background in working with children included acting and production classes at the Lee Strasberg Institute in Los Angeles; the Rogue Musical Theatre in Grants Pass; and the Conservatory for Camelot Theatre.

Gwen holds graduate degrees in music performance (BM/MM), acting (MFA), theatre arts (PhD), and clinical psychology (MA/PhD). When not in the theatre, Gwen stays busy with her Expressive Voice Dynamics practice; writing nonfiction texts; romance novels and mysteries, 22 of which have been published.

Camelot Board President Jim Fredericks made the announcement, “as our new Artistic Director, Gwen will oversee the artistic direction of our upcoming seasons and each production. We are excited about the energy and creativity Gwen will bring to our theatre; and we look forward to the productions and initiatives that will result from her leadership, expertise and talent.”
